Rationale
The school has an enrolment scheme to manage school enrolments to prevent overcrowding.

Home Zone
The following children will be accepted as of right:

Children living within the designated geographic boundaries of the school as outlined below. (Students living in the home zone are asked to pre-enrol, to assist the school in planning for any out of zone placements.)

Out of Zone Enrolment
Applications from out of zone students will be processed in the following order of priority.

First priority will be given to students who have been accepted for enrolment in an approved special programme. (This priority category is not applicable at our school.)

• Second priority will be given to applicants who are siblings of current students.
• Third priority will be given to applicants who are siblings of former students.
• Fourth priority will be given to applicants who are children of board employees.
• Fifth priority will be given to all other applicants.

Each year the Board of Trustees will
Determine the periods during which applications will be accepted and advertise ballot dates. Applications will be accepted in terms of this scheme once it has been notified in accordance with Section 11 of the Education Amendment Act 2000.

Presently we have programmes for Art, Drama and Recorder and you can also read about our in-school piano, band and guitar lessons.

Schools are funded on their March and July pupil number rolls. It is important we have fairly accurate data to determine class numbers at least one year out from these rolls and it also helps to determine if we have any ballot places.

School Entry Age Guidelines – Ponsonby Primary School

Understanding Year Level Classifications & Cohort 4 Review
Standard Year 1 Cut-off (Cohorts 1–3): Children starting on or before 27 April 2027 are automatically registered as Year 1 for the 2027 school year.

Flexible Window (Cohort 4 — 31 May): Children entering in Cohort 4 whose 5th birthdays fall between 28 April and 31 May will default to Year 0.

Cohort 4 Review Process: Because Cohort 4 sits in a transition window, teachers conduct an end-of-year review in consultation with parents and whānau. If the student demonstrates required academic, social, and emotional readiness, their classification can be updated to Year 1, allowing them to move into Year 2 the following year.

Definite Year 0 Students (Cohorts 5–8): Children who enter on or after 19 July 2027 Cohorts 5 through 8) are strictly classified as Year 0. They complete the rest of 2027 as Year 0 and officially begin Year 1 at the start of 2028.

Our school Hero App – School Management Made Simple, is a great way to quickly access everything you need to know at Ponsonby Primary School. This app is the best way to access your child’s school records, reports and to notify us on any absences throughout the school year.

An email will be sent out to you with your secure login and password when your child starts.

Ponsonby Primary School does not have School Uniforms but we do have a range of PPS Merch Shirts, Sports Shirts and House Shirts.

House Shirts are worn every Friday, so one will be required. You can purchase all merchandise from our online store 

During your enrolment meeting you will be advised of your child’s school house:

• Ruapehu (Red t-shirt);
• Taranaki (Yellow t-shirt);
• Tongariro (Blue t-shirt);
• Ngauruhoe (Green t-shirt)

Ponsonby Primary School is sun safe focused. In terms 1 & 4 (the summer months) it is compulsory for each child to wear a brimmed hat.

or supply your own. Please note no strings should be attached to the hat as they are choking hazards.

It is required that you pack a healthy lunch for your child every day.

Ponsonby Primary uses Ezlunch is a convenient and affordable way to have healthy, hot and cold, online lunch orders delivered directly to our school. Simply order your child’s lunch online by heading to the @School App and clicking on the ‘Kindo’ icon.

Please note that orders need to be placed before 9am for same day delivery.
