Dedicated to nurturing every learner through a supportive, inclusive, and engaging environment.
We are a vibrant primary school dedicated to nurturing every learner through a supportive, inclusive, and engaging environment. Our school is organised into three syndicates—each tailored to meet the developmental needs of our students as they grow. Together, our passionate teachers and staff work closely to foster curiosity, confidence, and a love of learning in every child.

at Ponsonby Primary School
Kākāriki is the junior syndicate at Ponsonby Primary, encompassing Years 0, 1, and 2. Our learning spaces are vibrant and engaging, designed to spark curiosity and joy in learning. We place strong emphasis on fostering independence, developing social-emotional awareness, and cultivating a lifelong love of learning.
In Kākāriki, children are introduced to core values such as kindness, responsibility (as Kaitiaki), and making positive choices—guided by our TRUE values. We use the Zones of Regulation to support emotional literacy, recognising that a happy, self-aware child is best positioned to thrive.
We deliver robust structured literacy and mathematics programmes setting your child up for success in their primary school years. We hold high academic expectations and deliver rich, meaningful learning experiences through our Local Curriculum, with a strong focus on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) integration.

Years 3 – 4
at Ponsonby Primary School
Pūriri is home to our Year 3 and 4 learners—a dynamic stage where students continue to develop independence, confidence, and a strong sense of responsibility. We take pride in supporting their journey as they grow from younger learners in Year 3 into confident role models in Year 4.
Students in Pūriri begin participating in our Thursday enrichment programmes, providing opportunities to explore new interests and extend their learning. Across all areas—from academic work to collaboration and friendships—our students consistently demonstrate the TRUE values that underpin our school culture.
We are incredibly proud of the growth, maturity, and enthusiasm shown by our Year 3 and 4 learners.

at Ponsonby Primary School
Welcome to the Kōwhai Syndicate, the senior hub of Ponsonby Primary. In Years 5 and 6, our tamariki transition into the leaders and role models of our school community. Our mission is to empower every student to develop personal resilience, master self-management, and – most importantly – get involved and have fun!
We offer a robust academic program designed to prepare students for the challenges of intermediate and beyond. We utilize a mastery approach grounded in the science of learning, aligned with New Zealand’s refreshed curriculum. Daily lessons in spelling patterns, morphology, and reading fluency ensure our students are confident communicators. Our Thursday Programme offers students the opportunity to take part in different activities each term, fostering self-management, independence and encouraging them to try something new.
Our Year 6 students drive change and build community through three dedicated leadership groups:
Cultural Toa: Celebrating and strengthening our school’s cultural identity.
House Captains: Fostering school spirit and friendly competition.
Sustainability Leaders: Caring for our environment and future.
Our Education Outside The Classroom programme is designed to build confidence, collaboration and resilience. Year 5 take part in an immersive Marae stay and a surf trip to Orewa, and our Year 6s head off on our legendary Motutapu camp. They are highlights of the year!
