Our Sustainability Hub: Outdoor Learning in Action
An Outdoor Classroom:
We are creating a dedicated Sustainability Hub—a vibrant outdoor classroom where every Ponsonby Primary student can connect directly with nature. It serves as an active space for hands-on outdoor learning, empowering our tamariki to see firsthand how small daily choices make a big impact on our wider world.
Smart Sustainable Travel
Smart & Sustainable Travel:
Walkking School Bus
Walking School Bus:
Keeping our local streets safer and quieter while getting moving in the morning, our walking school bus gets students to school energized and carbon-free. At this stage Wednesdays and Fridays we meet at Summer street at 8:10am – all welcome!
Central Auckland PT Initiatives:
Central Auckland PT Initiatives:
Living in the heart of central Auckland means public transport is right on our doorstep. We empower our tamariki to use local buses and trains, utilising school AT HOP cards for trips to drastically reduce costs and eliminate unnecessary private bus charters.

Kaitiaki Class of the Week:
Each week, a designated class steps up as kaitiaki (guardians)—maintaining clean grounds, sorting waste, and returning lost property to its owners to prevent unnecessary waste.
Science, Data & Environmental Action
School Waste Audits:
We measure what we manage. Hands-on waste audits allow our students to analyse our consumption habits, track progress, and find smart ways to divert waste from landfills.
Sustainable Schools Weather Station:
Generously supplied by the Sustainable Schools Project, our new on-site weather station gives students real-time climate data to study local weather patterns and understand the environment firsthand.
