Dedicated to nurturing every learner through a supportive, inclusive, and engaging environment.
We are a vibrant primary school dedicated to nurturing every learner through a supportive, inclusive, and engaging environment. Our school is organised into three syndicates—each tailored to meet the developmental needs of our students as they grow. Together, our passionate teachers and staff work closely to foster curiosity, confidence, and a love of learning in every child.
Years 0 – 2
at Ponsonby Primary School
Kākāriki is the junior syndicate at Ponsonby Primary, encompassing Years 0, 1, and 2. Our learning spaces are vibrant and engaging, designed to spark curiosity and joy in learning. We place strong emphasis on fostering independence, developing social-emotional awareness, and cultivating a lifelong love of learning.
At Kākāriki, children are introduced to core values such as kindness, responsibility (as Kaitiaki), and making positive choices—guided by our TRUE values. We use the Zones of Regulation to support emotional literacy, recognising that a happy, self-aware child is best positioned to thrive.
We hold high academic expectations and deliver rich, meaningful learning experiences through our Local Curriculum, with a strong focus on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) integration.
Years 3 – 4
at Ponsonby Primary School
Pūriri is home to our Year 3 and 4 learners—a dynamic stage where students continue to develop independence, confidence, and a strong sense of responsibility. We take pride in supporting their journey as they grow from younger learners in Year 3 into confident role models in Year 4.
Students in Pūriri begin participating in our Thursday enrichment programmes, providing opportunities to explore new interests and extend their learning. Across all areas—from academic work to collaboration and friendships—our students consistently demonstrate the TRUE values that underpin our school culture.
We are incredibly proud of the growth, maturity, and enthusiasm shown by our Year 3 and 4 learners.
Years 5 – 6
at Ponsonby Primary School
The Kōwhai Syndicate includes our Year 5 and 6 students, who take on key leadership responsibilities within the school community. Leadership is a strong focus in this syndicate, with Year 6 students actively contributing through roles such as House Captains, Wellbeing Leaders, the STEAM Team, and Cultural Toa.
We foster independence and self-management through rich learning experiences, including Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC) and school camps—supporting the development of confidence, resilience, and teamwork.
As the senior students of Ponsonby Primary, Kōwhai learners are proud role models who consistently demonstrate our core TRUE values: Trust, Respect, Understanding, and Excellence.
