Mihi Whakatau
This event is for the entire school and new entrants. A mihi whakatau is a Māori welcome ceremony that’s less formal than a pōwhiri. It’s a speech or speeches that acknowledge people at a meeting. A mihi (welcome speech) will be made by a representative of the school. Then the children and staff will stand and sing a waiata (song) to support the speaker’s message.
